Week1: Telling a story from juxstaposition pictures
My ideas of What makes a successful story:
-
Story starts with the ending
-
Make sure has beginning middle and end
-
give detailed settings , changes of settings environments
-
Include conflict
-
poetry methods- Haiku for example
Juxstaposition meaning : The fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effects
I took pictures of places and things that contrasted each other , which allowed me to tell a story from them. Under some if the picture it explains what story ideas arise from each of them
-
Student union bar social space , no one there - ghost town
-
zombie apocalypse
-
club conflict
-
Futuristic setting
-
I Feel this picture tells a story the most as it has a mystery feeling to it as you cant see the end of the corridor . It has connotations of a horror movie showing it could be the end of a story - cliffhanger.
-
advanced cars
-
spy movie
-
Matrix type film
-
Ending of a story - barrier final level
-
two paths to take
-
Enclosed space - feeling of mystery
-
no one there- ghost town /conflict
-
Behind glass something precious kept inside
week 2 : using dslr cameras
We took different pictures using DSLR cameras outside the university . I have gone on to explain the details in some pictures
This picture has an iso of 600 so its a high quality image. As a result of this it has quite a fast shutter speed resulting in the background of the trees being blurry.
The aperature in these pictures are both f/5 so it comes out as a clear and sharp image
iso 600 was also in this picture and the shutter speed was quite fast to capture the image if the moving plane resulting in it being blurry in the sky.
This image has an ISO of 200 and has a medium aperature size of f/14 making the image quite blurry
Week 3 : Story board pictures
We went around campus taking pictures trying to tell a story . we also used different types of shots to capture the images
With the orange bike I used an establishing shot to show how a persons day generally a bike next to the other bike
I then used a medium/ close up shot of my friend walking onto to the stairs showing more detail of the subject.
Finally another establishing shot was used to capture the setting of which the action is taking place in the uni, then close up shots of my friend walking up the stairs.
Week 4-6 : assignment 1- photo board story - 41 shots all together
The long of the goals shows the scene in which the football match will take place. The medium long shot of the football players as they face the other team. This is a medium long shot because the players head to their knees are showing.
Medium long shots are used here again to capture the football team progressing up the field.
A close up shot is used here to capture the players angry facial expressions as he just got fouled. A close up shot of the ball is used as it shows the reason the action/foul took place .
All shots here are close ups showing the player setting up the action of taking the penalty kick.
Medium close up shots here showing the changing movement of the players stance and then a long shot of the ball going of into the distance as he misses the penalty. The final shot in this scene is the close up shot of the opponent team reaction of relief as he misses the penalty as they can win the game
Range of wide angle shots and close up of the goalkeeper kicking the ball
Most effective shot is the close up shot of the players rainbowflick then the high angle shot showing speed of movement and an a well performed skill- good point of action in the game
long shot to show a goal scored and close up to show happy expression of a gesture as a celebration
Long shots to capture winning and loosing team leaving the game highlighting the facial expressions of defeat , sad and happy faces.
Medium shots are used here to capture the final scene, showing how everyone is involved as the manager gives the team briefing
Assignment 2 : Stop motion - (Coronavirus rationing toilet paper )
My short film Shows a piece of toilet paper moving around the house. It ties into the corona virus crisis were in, as people are trying to get toilet roll so much the toilet roll has sense of self importance and doesn't want to be used anymore. the toilet paper wants power now and has become arrogant thus wants to go and explore the world. As it does this it comes close to gaining freedom.
I started to experiment on one of my scenes - making the toilet paper roll down very slowly at 12fps , until it gets to point where I can cut a piece of tissue off from the roll. I started to experiment with one piece of tissue moving. I noticed as I did this myself it was difficult as the camera wasn't still, so I got someone to help.
Behind the scenes shots
Final stop motion movie
This is my final film and within my film I got my sibling to watch the toilet paper travel. I also got my sibling to move the tissue paper slowly whilst I move the objects to make a smoother stop motion film.
The scene starts of with the tissue tearing off the roll, then travelling past the persons feet and they watch it escape. I then made the tissue go between the stairs bars for faster movement as a snake going down the stairs . It finally comes past an obstacle (the slipper) and meets another end of a tissue and goes back into the package.
For our next task with assignment 2 we had to find a practitioner who is involved in the world of VFX/animation and explain who they are and why they're important to our project
Background about VFX practioner:
Jans Svankmajer Born September 4 1934 was a filmmaker / surreal artist. He was well known for his portraying dark fantasy and fairytales themes in his movies. Around the 1960s was when he began work on his interests such as puppetry in his first film. This first film of his would see him carrying out stop motion techniques. The film was called "The last Trick". One of his best works was "Lecke Faust" he made in 1993 and "Little Otik" he made in 2000. Little Otek was a dark comedy . As the soviet Union fell his reputation grew.
He inspires me as, he is able to tell a lot from unique themes , and make a simple idea so effective. Also surrealism is connected with psychology and the mind. This allows peoples perceptions to be changed, thus they can view life from a different and clearer angle.
